 Mandala
 Painting (Water-colour on Paper)
 by Stella Seigerman

My paintings are intuitive and visionary. I am a colourist. Each painting symbolically synchronises with my life experience at the particular time in which it was created. Each image tells a deeper story that is woven into the fabric of my being.

Purity of colour is essential to me. It nourishes and balances my spiritual, emotional, mental and physical being. If colour is pure, it has the potential to heal. I would like my paintings to sing a calm and peaceful melody, which is soothing to the soul on its eternal journey.

My background is an eclectic mix. I am a first generation Australian, my father was Swiss my mother Italian. At the early age of seventeen I studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, one year of night school and four years full time. In the early 1970's, I lived in Java and Bali Studying Chinese water-colour painting with Mr. Lee Hwat Swie. Batik, meditation and Tai Chi were also practiced. On my travels through southeast Asia, I developed an appreciation for fine crafts and art forms in various media. The divergent line between what is considered an art form and what is craft has always fascinated me.

After completing a teaching degree in Australia I once more traveled extensively through Asia, finally living in America and studying with the master weaver, Arturo Sandoval, at the University of Lexington, in Kentucky. Over the years I have done master classes in photography, sculpture, drawing and collage with Paul Cox, Robert Langley, Pat Shanon and Mirka Moira.

Later, I completed a two year degree in ceramics, tutored by Kevin Boyd. Painting and life drawing have always been part of my life. I have exhibited in group shows, and from the late 1990's onwards, I have had three solo exhibitions. More recently, I have traveled to Hawaii and Peru, these places are a source of inspiration to me. For the past twelve years I have taught art and craft at two of Melbournes' Steiner schools.

My deepest love is colour, along with sound and form. If combined harmoniously, they have powerful healing potential. As an extension of this belief, I have recently completed a Graduate Diploma and at present am working on completing a Masters in Experiential and Creative Art therapy. My main intention is that my paintings have a calming and uplifting effect on the viewer.
