Peace Celebration

Garden Room

Background:

On December 10, 1989 all peace loving people from all walks of life were honoured when HH The Dalai Lama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo Norway.

All the suffering and pain of all historical peoples for all time memorable was given dignity when such prestigious recognition was awarded His Holiness. The sufferings of the Tibetan people were declared and acknowledged on the world stage. At last given the large voice that it has always deserved. This large face of peaceful protest was a kind, humble Tibetan Buddhist monk who, as his name reflects, is truly an ocean of wisdom.

If you read the presentation speech it states the fear of the Tibetan people becoming a minority. It is almost fifteen years on from that historic day and the Chinese are still persecuting the Tibetan people who have become, as feared, a minority in their own land.

The passage of time has not deterred His Holiness’s resolve. The Dalai Lamas inspiration belongs to the whole human family. Every day we need to make time and practice true kindness not when it is easy to do so but when the challenge is at its greatest.

The Celebration:

The Tibetan people seize and celebrate December 10 as a day of peace celebrations and this year we are truly fortunate to have this day falling on a Saturday. Lobsang Tendar extends a big welcome to his friends and your friends to come and join in the festivities. Tendar will conduct a chant for world peace, which will set the tone and atmosphere for the day. So please all come along and be a part of generating peace and harmony for this beautiful world we are privileged to live in. This is also an opportunity to catch up before the end of the year and wish each other well.

Blessings of Peace are with you.

Medicine Buddha and White Tara
Healing Inner & Outer Retreat

With
Venerable Lobsang Tendar
Starts: Friday 22 July 2005 4.30 – 6.00pm
Concludes: Sunday 24 July 2005 3.00 – 3.30pm
At Iluka
20 Shoreham Road Shoreham Vic 3916
Melways ref.: Map 256 D4.

The Retreat (excerpt from PDF):

The practice of Medicine Buddha is a very powerful method for healing ourself and others, and for overcoming the inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance. The practice of White Tara strengthens and protects while giving freedom from fear. You are invited to an open-heart retreat. You are invited to feel your divine beauty within.

This is a weekend of practise interwoven with fun, laughter and friendship. Interconnectedness.

All things Tibetan are born of this alchemic mix.

The retreat is suitable for beginners or experienced meditators. Meditations and teachings will be on the Medicine Buddha and White Tara. You will be required to learn and say mantras for The Medicine Buddha and White Tara. On registration and receipt of deposit, a copy of these mantras will be forwarded so you can become acquainted with them prior to the retreat. A booklet explaining the teachings relating to each of the mantras will be supplied at the retreat.

The aim of the retreat is to create an environment that is conducive for the development of meditation practice. In a natural space that is both peaceful and aesthetic. I believe this is well catered for at Iluka. A former Buddhist monk Yong will prepare three vegetarian meals a day throughout the retreat. If any one has any special dietary requirements please inform organisers in advance.

You are asked to respect the required times of quiet. It is preferable that you attend all sessions. When you are tired and need a stretch, do not stretch legs in the direction of the Buddha or the teacher. You are asked to dress in comfortable attire and leave valuables at home.

If you have difficulties, please talk to the teacher. He will give you guidance in overcoming your problems.

All proceeds from the retreat will support refugee Tibetan families and Tibetan monks in India.

Australian Citizenship Ceremony
Brighton Town Hall
Wednesday June 29th, 2005

In the company of many good friends and supporters, the Venerable Lobsang Tendar recieved his official Australian Citizenship document from the Mayor of Brighton (the honorable Craig Tucker) at the Brighton Town Hall, Wednesday evening, June 29th, 2005.

The occasion was attended by local councillors, state and federal ministers, a hundred or so successful applicants and some 300 guests.

Though a relatively brief ceremony, the entire event lasting just over forty-five minutes, it is sure to be one that Tendar (who smiled incessantly) will long remember.

Welcome to Australia Tendar! with best wishes from all of us.

Tibetan art and culture exhibition
(E Carbines Members Statement 16th June 2005
Hansard Database, Parliament House, Melbourne)

Ms CARBINES (Geelong) - This week the Victorian MPs for Tibet have been delighted to host an exhibition of Tibetan art and culture in Queen's Hall. On display is the beautiful and thought?provoking artwork of both Karma Phuntsok and John Westmore, plus many drawings from Tibetan children whose simple yet stark message is clear.

We have also been honoured to have in attendance all week the Venerable Lobsang Tendar who has amazed all who have taken the time to stop and watch him craft his exquisitely delicate butter sculptures. The launch of the Tibetan art and culture exhibition on Tuesday evening by Greg Champion was attended by over 100 people, many of whom had travelled from across the state.

The significance of hosting an exhibition to celebrate Tibetan art and culture in the Victorian Parliament was appreciated by all in attendance. We were thankful for the Tibetan blessing bestowed upon our Parliament by the Venerable Lobsang Tendar and Kanchog Rigzen.

Victorian MPs for Tibet have been pleased to be able to facilitate this exhibition. It is an opportunity to celebrate the art and culture of Tibet, and importantly a small step in helping to keep the art and culture alive.
