Avalokiteshvara
Buddha Of Compassion Retreat

Three Day Residential

Friday 31st October to Monday 3rd November 2008
'The Briars' Nepean Highway, Mount Martha

You are invited to an open-heart retreat.

Due to HH Dalai Lama teachings recently in Sydney, Tendar has decided to dedicate this retreat to His Holiness. The Tibetan people affectionately refer to His Holiness as Poppa Chenrezig, compassionate father. Chenrezig is the Tibetan name for Avalokiteshvara Buddha of Compassion.

The focus of the practice and teachings for this retreat will be ways of cultivating compassion in our lives. To recognise the poisons of thought that obstruct happiness and contribute to our interconnected suffering. Only with compassion and wisdom can the seed of bodhichitta grow. The Mahayana path to enlightenment is always in our relationship to others. It is never separated or isolated.

Tendar will teach the technique of calm abiding meditation-Shamatha meditation. When practiced correctly we learn to be gentle with ourselves while cultivating kindness in our relationships with others.

The time that we spend at Buddhist Retreat is a precious space we create for ourselves to allow the precious and sacred teachings to flow over and through us. At Buddhist Retreat we renew our spiritual connection and allow our minds to breathe and become spacious. From Buddhist Retreat we take the tools that equip us to function more consciously in the world. These retreats are suitable for beginners and practitioners of all levels.

Events for June 2008:

Dear Friends,

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dates for the Stages of Meditation Teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama have changed.

His Holiness has been invited, by the King of Jordan, to attend a special conference of Nobel Laureates to address pressing global problems. As this meeting coincides with the Teaching schedule we need to adjust the dates accordingly.

The new dates are Wednesday June 11 to Sunday June 15. The program itself is unaffected and these new dates do have the added benefit of spanning a full weekend so they now involve less days off work.

Many people will understand that this is the chance of a lifetime to receive Teachings on Meditation from His Holiness. From compassion and calm abiding to achieving wisdom, the Nobel Peace Laureate will explain the principles of meditation over 5 days, in a practice-oriented format especially suited to Westerners.

“Through meditation, we can train our minds so that negative qualities are abandoned and positive qualities are generated and enhanced.”
- His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Earlybird prices will now be available until February 29. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity.

********

The teachings are based on the great scholar-saint, 9th Century Indian Master Kamalashila's Middle Stages of Meditation.

Described by His Holiness as “a key that opens the door to all other major Buddhist scriptures”, Kamalashila’s classic text Stages of Meditation has been revered by Buddhists of all traditions since its creation.

Presenting the essence of the entire Buddhist Path to Enlightenment in 10 short chapters, Kamalashila’s text places particular emphasis on calm abiding meditation and special insight. It demonstrates how carefully structured and conceptually informed meditation sessions serve as the bridge between the philosophical tenets of Buddhism and insight in the mind of practitioners.

Over the course of 5 inspiring days by reference to Kamalashila’s text, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will demonstrate how the nature of awareness, developed through meditative practices can be transformed into the direct perceptual wisdom necessary to achieve enlightenment itself. On the final day of the teachings, His Holiness will give the Chenrezig (Avalokitesvara) Initiation.

Visit our website www.dalailamainaustralia.org for further information and ticket purchases.

Best wishes,

Lynn Bain, General Manager and the team at Dalai Lama in Australia

We are working to create a complete online solution for the community of people who so value the opportunity to experience teachings from His Holiness. Our goal is to be able communicate with you in an ongoing and cost effective manner that won’t chew up the planets resources nor waste funds.

February 2008:

The Tibetan Buddhist Tantrayana Centre has now officially been incorporated.

Tendar would like to pass on his deep gratitude and sincere thanks to all those who have participated in the (now two year) process of bringing the association into existence.

In the weeks and months ahead, a new web site will be created specifically for the Tibetan Buddhist Tantrayana Centre. This will allow us to provide you with information about the association and a variety of services including membership signup, donations and fundraising for projects in Tibet (and elsewhere).

Again ... thank YOU for your support.

Peter Nowak - Public Officer - Tibetan Buddhist Tantrayana Centre inc.

2008 Fundraising Calendar:

2008 Fundraising Calendar

Generous Spirit Project
2008 Fundraising Calendar

Venerable Lobsang Tendar has dreams of keeping Tibetan language and culture alive and thriving. He dreams of easing the hardship experienced in his remote home town. He dreams of rebuilding the critically damaged monastery where he was first inducted as a monk at the age of 12. He dreams of providing a spiritual home and place of worship plus health care and education to benefit over 3000 people in the surrounding villages.

Together with a group of enthusiastic (self-funding) Australians, Tendar plans to travel to Tibet in mid-2008 to meet with representatives from Dego Samdupling Monastery and the local villages and start preparations for the building process. It will no doubt be a slow process, hindered by harsh weather, bureaucracy and lack of funds, but never a lack of faith or commitment to a generous spirit. Through the purchase of this calendar, you will have helped Tendar and his supporters in Australia come closer to achieving his dream, as shown your own generous spirit.

PLEASE SUPPORT THIS CAUSE
CALENDARS ARE $25 EACH

Thanks to the generosity of people who donated their time, services and energy, the only outlay for the project has been printing, so 80 per cent of your contribution will go directly to building the Dego Samdupling Monastery complex.
