A Special Ceremony
to Consecrate (Bless) New Statues and Thangkas

with Venerable Lobsang Tendar

In the Tibetan tradition, holy statues enshrined in monasteries are filled with precious items then blessed in a special ceremony during which the Ultimate Awareness is invited to enter into and merge with the statues and thangkas. The statues and thangkas become a living entity capable of bestowing blessings.

It is the tradition for the Gyuto monks to consecrate (bless) new Buddha statues and fill them with hundreds of holy mantras. If you would like to have your statue consecrated and filled with mantras, please bring it to the centre on the consecration day. If you are unable to stay for the ceremony, make sure you write your name and contact information at the back of your statue or thangka so we can contact you when it is ready to pick up.

If you can come to this special ceremony, the day will start with chanting then filling the statues with mantras and precious objects, herbs and then finally consecrated by Venerable Lobsang Tendar.

Everyone is welcome to bring along any Buddha statue that is made of metal or wood that is hollow as the statue needs to be filled. If the statue is not hollow it can still be blessed. You can place small precious objects of your own inside the statue like crystals, gold, silver, diamonds or something small that has sentimental value. The statue is then to be sealed.

No leather or animal products are used for filling the statues.

Venerable Lobsang Tendar Tendar has requested that no meat or garlic is to be eaten for any meal on that day. Please bring lunch to share (food without meat or garlic.)

If you do not have a statue to fill or thangka to bless, you can still come along to assist and just enjoy this beautiful ceremony.

Venerable Lobsang Tendar will be offering this special ceremony on a regular yearly basis at the Medicine Buddha Tantra Healing Centre.

This year's consecration ceremony is on:

which gives birth to warmth, compassion and relief from bad karma as experienced by
ordinary beings in cyclic existence. She engenders, nourishes, smiles at the vitality of creation,
and has sympathy for all beings as a mother does for her children.

As Green Tara she offers succour and protection from all the unfortunate circumstances one can
encounter within the samsaric world. As White Tara she expresses maternal compassion
and offers healing to beings who are hurt or wounded, either physically or psychically.
